Driver dies after vehicle plunges down Mt. Tamalpais State Park hillside
MARIN COUNTY, Calif. (KTVU) - The driver of a vehicle has died after plunging down a steep hillside in Mount Tamalpais State Park after they went off the roadway, according to California Highway Patrol.
Officials in Marin said the crash was reported to them at about 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, when the vehicle, traveling north on Ridgecrest Boulevard near Willow Camp Fire Road, went off the roadway and landed hundreds of feet below.%INLINE%
CHP said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and that a 13-year-old male passenger was taken to Marin General Hospital with major injuries. The sheriff identified the driver on Friday as Trygve Walter Hansen, 53, of Inverness.
It is not clear why the vehicle went off the road, but CHP Marin posted photos of the scene from above the dropoff that showed thick, foggy conditions.
The crash is under investigation.
