Driver fleeing from police crashes into San Jose home

A driver suspected of crashing into a home and fleeing from police in the Alum Rock neighborhood of San Jose was arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers had attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet pickup truck for a vehicle code violation at about 1:45 p.m. in the area of Alum Rock Avenue and White Road, according to police.

The driver allegedly backed up into an officer's patrol car and drove away, and officers determined the vehicle matched the description of one involved in a prior hit-and-run and assault with a deadly weapon in San Jose.

The suspect crashed into a home in the 3300 block of East Hills Drive minutes later and police responded and surrounded the area.

Officers were unable to see if the suspect was inside the car because its windows were tinted, but they eventually located the suspect inside the home's garage and he was arrested without incident.

Police said the driver also hit two other vehicles in the area before crashing into the house. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. No one else was injured.

The suspect's name has not yet been released. After being discharged from the hospital, he will be booked into the county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run and evading a police
officer.
