EBMUD issues notice to suspend excessive water penalties
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - East Bay Municipal Utility District voted unanimously on Tuesday to suspend excessive water penalties.
In a news release, the agency said the Bay Area's wet winter that restored reservoirs to healthy levels was the reason behind the decision in the unanimous vote by the District's Board of Directors.
The Excessive Water Use Penalty Ordinance, had levied fines on customers who used more than 80 units of water per billing cycle.
The suspension goes into effect starting May 3.
