El Nino preparedness workshops offered in Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (BCN) - With more storms on the horizon, the City of Oakland is offering free workshops this month to residents and business in preparation for El Nino, city officials said.
According to city officials, participants can choose from two dates -- Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon or Jan. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. - where weather experts and members of the City's fire department will demonstrate how to stay safe through the winter storm.
City officials said the city is preparing for more storms with above-average rainfall and strong winds.
The first workshop, located at 81st Avenue Library, 1021 81st Ave., will be presented in English and Spanish.
The second workshop will be held at the Chabot Space & Science Center located at 10000 Skyline Blvd. and will host a special presentation by landslide expert Jonathan Stock.

According to city officials, additional workshops are being planned and will be posted at oaklandnet.com/elnino along with videos and resources for the storm.
