Elon Musk donates Cybertrucks to LA communities without power

Elon Musk is warning of a delay in Cybertruck deliveries in California as several will be donated to Los Angeles area communities that remain without power due to the Palisades and Eaton fires.

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team posted a photo on social media showing several Cybertrucks donated from Tesla, which will be used to provide power and free WiFi until power is restored to the sheriff's station.

Cybertrucks can provide backup power to a home for up to three days, according to Tesla’s website. Musk said these donated models will be equipped with Starlinks and free Wi-Fi.

Musk said more Cybertrucks will be sent to affected areas in the greater Los Angeles and Malibu areas. As a result, anyone expecting a Cybertruck delivery this week should expect delays.

"Apologies to those expecting Cybertruck deliveries in California over the next few days. We need to use those trucks as mobile base stations to provide power to Starlink Internet terminals in areas of LA without connectivity. A new truck will be delivered end of week," he wrote on X.

As of Sunday night, 24 deaths have been confirmed from both the Palisades and Eaton fires.

According to the latest update from the Medical Examiner, 16 deaths are attributed to the Eaton Fire and 8 from the Palisades Fire

Luna said the sheriff's department has received 16 missing persons reports, and that number is expected to rise.

The National Weather Service issued red flag warnings for severe fire conditions through Wednesday, with sustained winds of 50 mph and gusts in the mountains reaching 70 mph. The most dangerous day will be Tuesday.

About 150,000 people in Los Angeles County remained under evacuation orders, with more than 700 residents taking refuge in nine shelters, Luna said. Officials said most of the orders in the Palisades area were unlikely to be lifted before the red flag warnings expire Wednesday evening.

SUGGESTED: 10 burglary arrests in Palisades Fire evacuation zone: SMPD
