Fatal I-880 crash in Hayward under investigation
HAYWARD, Calif. - A deadly overnight crash is now under investigation in Hayward, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was first reported Thursday night before 10 p.m. on northbound Interstate 880 near A Street. One person was killed in the crash, the CHP said.
When authorities arrived, they determined that four vehicles had been involved in the crash, including a Ford F350, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry and Toyota Tacoma. The passenger who died was in the Toyota Corolla, and they will not be identified until after their next of kind has been notified, CHP said.
The driver of the Toyota Camry fled on foot after the crash, and CHP has yet to identify them. The other people involved are cooperating with law enforcement.
There were reports that several people were trapped inside of cars as a result of the crash.
