Dozens of firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment complex in Oakland on Tuesday afternoon.

Flames tore through an Oakland apartment building on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was first reported around 1:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on the corner of East 8th Street and 6th Avenue.

Dozens of Oakland firefighters were dispatched to the scene and were able to get the blaze under control within 90 minutes.

Oakland's newly hired police chief will officially start on Saturday.

However, fire officials said flames spread to a nearby single-family home. Both the home and apartment building suffered significant damage.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities have not said how many people were displaced as a result of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
