Fireworks can be set off in five designated areas in Petaluma, or seen at the fair

Folks in Petaluma can see fireworks at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds today, and also may set off state-approved fireworks in five designated areas, police said.

The annual fireworks show will take place around 9:15 p.m. today at the fairgrounds, causing large crowds and traffic congestion, according to police.

Those who wish to set off state-approved fireworks can do so at McNear Park; Prince Park; at the northwest parking lot and grass area of Luchessi Park; at the ball fields of Wiseman Park; and on the Westside lawn and parking area of City Hall, police said.

No fireworks of any kind may be set off in the High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. This zone is primarily located within the western fringes of the city and there is a higher chance of wildfire from a spark.
