OAKLAND, Calif. - The heavy fog permeating the Bay Area on Wednesday halted several flights to and from the three major airports, officials said.
A ground delay was issued at SFO from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. where departures to the airport are delayed an average of 82 minutes.
SFO spokesman Doug Yaekel said the FAA-mandated delays apply to short-haul flights within 1,000 miles, but long-haul and international flights not impacted.
Departures to Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International and OAK are grounded from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
San Jose airport spokeswoman Ana Maria State said several arriving planes were diverted to other airports because of the fog.
At about 10 a.m. SFO had more than 100 delays with an average delay time of 30 minutes, SJC had 40 delays and Oakland had 20 delays.
