SAN JOSE (KTVU) -- Police have arrested a man wanted for a series of incidents in which a suspect fired a gun into occupied vehicles along Blossom Hill Road, authorities said.

Michael Lewis, 30, of San Jose, was taken into custody about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday by San Jose police. Authorities said in a written statement that Lewis was found with a handgun and investigators have concluded that bullets from the weapon matched shell casings recovered at the scene of some of the shootings.

Sources tell KTVU Lewis was a coach for Pop Warner Football for spring and fall of 2015. He has two children.

Lewis was being held Wednesday night at the Santa Clara County Jail, where he was charged with four counts of attempted murder and a gun possession charge.

"I commend the San Jose Police Department for their exceptional work to arrest an extremely dangerous suspect without any loss of life," Mayor Sam Liccardo said. "Our officers continue to exceed expectations at a time when they remain historically shorthanded."

Police said they have been searching for the suspect wanted for shooting at vehicles on or near the Blossom Hill Road corridor since May. No injuries were reported but the series of shootings stoked fear among residents and drivers in the area.

It was not immediately clear how police were able to track Lewis. Police also did not comment on a motive in the case.
