SAN FRANCISCO - A woman was hit by a bullet Friday afternoon when an apparent road rage incident erupted into a freeway shooting on US-101 near the I-280 interchange in San Francisco, according to California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers in San Francisco are searching for whoever fired a gun at a woman on a busy highway. The woman, in her mid-30s, was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, with an injury to her leg; a non-life-threatening injury.
It happened just after 1 p.m. on the transition between freeways.
Investigators say the woman driving the white Subaru SUV was headed southbound transitioning from 101 onto I-280 when the shooting started, she eventually stopped close to the Monterey exit off of I-280.
CHP said she was hit by a bullet while driving, and she was the only person inside the car at the time.
Traffic is once again moving in both directions on I-280 after being shut down in both directions while investigators searched for bullet casings or any other evidence that might have been left at the scene.
Officers were investigating in the southbound lanes just past Alemany Boulevard under the Congdon Street overpass, where the victim's car was also pulled over.
As crews towed that white Subaru from the scene apparent bullet holes in the driver's side of the car were visible.
CHP has limited information about the suspect vehicle, saying only they are looking for a black SUV; no description of the shooter.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have been driving in the area who witnessed the shooting or any events leading up to it to contact them.
