SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Funding for new Muni trains has been halted after reports of mechanical issues
The state is investigating after disturbing video showed a woman being dragged by a train after a door closes on her hand.
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors was going approve funding for new Muni trains on Tuesday.
That’s not happening anymore after issues like the one in the video obtained by the San Francisco Examiner
In the video a woman's hand appears to get trapped in the doors as she's dragged on the platform and then thrown on the tracks.
Before the incident the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency asked the Board of Supervisors for more than $60 million to buy new Muni trains.
Supervisor Aaron Peskin told the Examiner the vote that was supposed to happen at a meeting Tuesday may be continued to a future date.
Peskin also said it would be irresponsible to approve taxpayer money for more trains as the California Public Utilities Commission investigates.
In statement a CPUC spokesperson said, “We’re investigating what occurred and why. We’re looking at both the door concerns and the coupler pin issue on the new SFMTA cars.”
KTVU reached out to Muni and is waiting on a response.
As for the woman in the video, she’s recovering after being seriously injured.
