Evacuees return to homes impacted by gas leak: SFFD
SAN FRANCISCO - Some homes were temporarily evacuated in San Francisco after a gas line was struck Saturday morning, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.
San Francisco Fire said a gas line by 47th Avenue and Balboa Street was accidentally struck around 11:25 a.m., by crews from the San Francisco Water Department.
One man who was there when the leak started told KTVU water was spraying 50 feet in the air.
He said about 12 people ran down the block when the leak started.
Those near 47th and 48th Avenues from Balboa to Cabrillo Streets were evacuated as a precaution, and electricity was shut off for around 2,200 homes, PG&E said.
A Muni bus on 47th Avenue and Balboa Street served as a temporary shelter for those evacuated.
The evacuation order was lifted around 3:30 p.m. Power is being returned to affected homes.
Drivers in the area can expect traffic delays and should consider other routes, officials said.
Officials are calling the incident isolated. No injuries have been reported so far.
