Grammy winner Billie Eilish kicks off two concert dates in San Jose
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Fans lined up at SAP Center on Tuesday night to see pop star Billie Eilish in concert. This is the first of two nights in San Jose for the singer’s ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour'.
Some fans told KTVU Eilish is the voice of their generation, which is Gen Z. Eilish is also known for promoting sustainability, and she partnered with Cal Train to help fans get her to San Jose.
Dozens of fans rode Caltrain 522 from San Francisco to San Jose. Eilish encouraged fans to ride the ‘Billie Car’ to SAP Center.
"Well, I ride Caltrain every week, almost every day. So, it’s very familiar to me and I just thought it’d be fun for my daughter to take the Billie Car," said Sara Parades, of San Carlos.
Super fan Maryl Mallorca, also rode the Billie Car and says a promotional team played Eilish’s music, offered trivia games and gave away prizes during the hour-long ride.
"So, I won this t-shirt! I was so excited. They were asking pretty hard trivia questions, but at least for this one, I just had to post on Instagram that I was on the Cal Train. Luckily, I had that ready because I’d been taking pictures all day," said Mallorca.
Eilish’s tour started back in September and according to her website, all remaining dates are sold out. Fans say the singer’s ability to use her songs and platform to uplift people is what they love about her most.
"She likes to donate. She does a lot of fundraisers," said Ayden Aldridge, of Santa Rosa.
"The vibe of her music just really resonates with me. Her lyrics really express what it’s like to be a Gen Z person in this country," said Everett Henrie, of Mountain View.
The nine-time Grammy winner is also known for her loose and comfortable fashion sense and fans stood in line to buy merchandise that promotes her style.
"I don’t know, it’s different from a lot of the singers we see. I really like the baggy, oversize look. She’s just doing what’s comfortable, you know," said Liz Camarena of Vallejo.
"I love how she’s so different from everyone else. She’s really just so powerful for a lot of young women," said Clara Peck, of Danville.
SAP Center will also offer an all-vegan menu during her concerts. Fans say they support Eilish being vegan, even if they’re not vegan themselves.
"I mean, I’m not vegan personally, but I do care about the environment," said Julia King, of San Carlos.
Eilish’s tour will end in Ireland next summer but because the tour is sold out, there is a waiting list on her website.
