Hayward police officer injured, suspect shot

HAYWARD, Calif. - A Hayward police officer was injured in a shooting with a suspect Monday night and a neighbor says it appeared to be a landlord-renter dispute over keys.

The shooting was reported at 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Hewitt Place.

Police said that an officer shot and injured a suspect, and sustained a non-life threatening injury. It wasn’t immediately clear if it was the same officer. But police did say a female officer had been treated and released from the hospital on Tuesday morning.

Police have not released much information. But neighbor Liz Bandermann said that she heard the landlord was fighting with tenant over returning some keys and ended up calling police.
