Hot, tasty chili in San Mateo firefighters' cook-off

SAN MATEO, Calif. (KTVU) - Don't be alarmed if you see smoke coming from Central Park in San Mateo on Saturday.

Firefighters will be taking part in an annual chili cook-off to raise money against muscular dystrophy.

San Mateo Fire Fighters' Association (SMFFA) and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) are hosting the event, which features award-winning chili from local fire departments.

Last year's event raised almost $14,000.

IAFF raised more than $25 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association last year.

Funding helped MDA send 71 local children to an summer camp in Occidental.

Firefighters are the largest contributor to MDA.
