A demonstration in support of a Google engineer who was fired was cancelled, but hundreds of counter-protesters still showed up.

The people who did rally in Mountain View were focused on last weekend's white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, rather than the fire engineer.

The people who gathered at Mountain View's Civic Center Plaza told us they oppose all types of hate. Some protesters said they came because they wanted to hear what other people are thinking.

Aaron Buie, from Milpitas said, "I feel it should be confronted because it's an issue that can't be ignored. And I feel like any chance we have to stop this, we have to."

Sunnyvale resident Erin Salter told us, "We're fed up and we want to be more active. We've been going to marches and rallies. After last weekend, we were so motivated to do something positive".

Salter and her friend accepted donations at the rallies for them to donate to the Southern Poverty Law Center and a group called Life After Hate.
