Ice Cube responds to age-old 'It Was A Good Day' date debate
OAKLAND, Calif. - Rapper Ice Cube was in Oakland Thursday ahead of the start of the NBA finals to talk about his BIG3 basketball league.
Ice Cube is a longtime Los Angeles Lakers fan, but said he's rooting for the Golden State Warriors to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"No doubt, the Dubs they've got an incredible team. If you love basketball you've got to know how they play. They have just some of the most amazing players in the NBA," Cube said.
Ice Cube is the co-founder of BIG3, a professional three on three basketball league, that will be playing at the Oakland Coliseum July 6, 2018. For every game the Warriors win during the finals, the next day, basketball fans can purchase one ticket to the BIG3 and get one ticket free.
Ice Cube also addressed an age-old question surrounding his famous rap 'It Was A Good Day.' There is much speculation surrounding what day Cube was actually referring to. Many online forums have calculated the actual day based on clues from the song.
- “Went to Short Dog’s house, They was watching Yo MTV RAPS.” Yo! MTV RAPS first aired on August 6, 1988.
- Ice Cube’s single 'It Was A Good Day' was released on February 23, 1993
- ”The Lakers beat the SuperSonics” when it was a day with "no smog'" November 30,1988, April 4, 1989, January 18, 1991, January 20,1992
Based on these clues and others, some people believe that the date from the song is January 20, 1992. KTVU asked Ice Cube if this was true.
"I think people are overthinking it," Cube said. "Every day that you are alive is a great day. Every day that you are above ground is a great day. Today is a great day 'cause we get to see some great basketball. Hopefully we get to see the Warriors win."
