Infant dies at Sunnyvale daycare facility

Authorities have launched an investigation into the death of a 4-month-old baby in Sunnyvale.

Police are investigating the death of a 4-month-old baby at a daycare facility in Sunnyvale on Wednesday, authorities said.

Officers responded around 3:53 p.m. to a distress call about a baby who was not breathing at Yoyo Daycare facility in the Plaza Del Rey mobile home park, located at 1220 Vienna Drive, according to the Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers Association. The daycare is licensed.

"Despite our officers' immediate life-saving attempts, the baby was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene," said the police union on social media.

'Really scary': Parents learn Oakland day care is shut down after multiple violations

Parents were surprised to learn their child's daycare was run by someone with a criminal record after GG’s Treehouse, a home day care in Oakland, was suddenly shut down last week by the California Department of Social Services.

Detectives are investigating the child's death in collaboration with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

"Our hearts are broken for the family of this child as we extend our deepest condolences and prayers for them," said the union.

Authorities have not disclosed details regarding the circumstances surrounding the infant's death.

However, a neighbor said earlier that afternoon she could hear sounds of a newborn in distress.

"I was in the restroom and I heard a baby crying," the woman said. "Usually you cannot hear a baby crying inside the room, inside the house. I guess the baby was on the driveway because I could hear the baby from the window."

Authorities said Yoyo Daycare had been inspected three times in the last three years. Those inspections turned up only minor violations.
