NEW YORK (KTVU) - A new kids T-shirt being sold by retailer J.Crew is triggering an online debate.
Last week, the New York-based brand took to Instagram with a photo of a little boy wearing a pink shirt that reads, "I am a feminist too."
The post has since received more than 16,000 "likes," with many praising the company saying the tees are promoting a great message about gender equality.
But not everyone is thrilled about the new item.
Some people criticized the store for injecting itself into politics.
Others said they didn't like that the brand is using children to make a political statement.
On its website, J.Crew said it created the limited-edition tees with prinkshop, "an activist-minded brand with a 'wear what you care about' point of view."
The company said for every shirt sold, it's donating 10 percent to Girl Up, an organization that seeks to empower young girls around the globe and help them achieve their dreams.
The tees were selling for $25 a piece but are no longer available.
On Monday, a check of the item on J.Crew's website found this note: "We're sorry. This item has been so popular, it has sold out."
