OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - A non-profit in Oakland is scrambling to get supplies for dozens of children after thieves stole the kids’ running shoes.
The non-profit called Running for a Better Oakland simply tries to get kids running and healthy.
It helps Oakland students from kindergarten to 12th grade develop healthy lifestyles by running every Saturday.
But thieves now took the one thing they need to help make that happen.
The theft, from a storage shed, happened sometime early Wednesday morning.
The director says the thieves took screws out of the door to get in, and stole shirts, water bottles, snacks and as many as 100 pairs of sneakers.
The sneakers were meant for the fall program students.
Right now Running for a Better Oakland is hoping to somehow replace the shoes.
