Facing eviction, suspect in San Francisco standoff

A barricaded suspect, who is facing eviction, is in a standoff with San Francisco police.

Civil unit officers with San Francisco Sheriff's Department were shot at while attempting to evict a man from a home in the Buena Vista neighborhood on Wednesday.

Officers arrived at a home around 10:45 a.m. in the area of 14th Street and Buena Vista. The sheriff's department said the person inside the home fired multiple rounds through the door. They pointed out that this was not an officer or deputy involved shooting.

A man in the home refused to come out and barricaded himself inside.

Officers used bullhorns, asking the barricaded man to come to the window and saying they wanted to help him.

Swarms of officers and several tactical teams filled the area and blocked off the streets.

The sheriff's office said the area was evacuated and the unidentified subject was taken into custody. It is not clear how long it took for the subject to be detained.

In similar cases, officers have waited outside, trying to deescalate the situation until the subject is ready to turn themselves in.

The sheriff's department civil unit serves papers in instances of summons, evictions, restraining orders and money and property seizures.

The sheriff's department said charges for the person taken into custody are forthcoming. They plan on giving an update on what happened late this afternoon.
