Last minute holiday shoppers look for deals in-store and online

There are just two shopping days left before Christmas and millions of people across the country are expected to shop in-store and online, looking for last-minute sales and deals.

"Skincare, body care, perfumes, face masks, fragrances, trinkets, gift cards. Gift cards are always a good go," said one shopper on Santana Row in San Jose

Making a list and checking it twice. On the last weekend before Christmas, some shoppers try to find the gifts they want.

Some say they just didn’t have a lot of time to get their shopping done earlier.

"I’ve just been a hot mess these last few months and I needed presents for everyone on my list. I was at Valley Fair (mall) since 8am. I took a break for a birthday party; came back to get my parents' luggage, and I’m still not done," said Lorena Herrera of San Jose.

The National Retail Federation estimates that 157.2 million people planned to shop the last Saturday before Christmas, up from $141.9 million just last year. The Federation also says because Thanksgiving was held during the last week of November, people had less time to shop this year.

"I really think if I had that extra week, I would be a little bit more on time," said Herrera.

Santana Row also offers entertainment and bright, decorative lights for those who just want to enjoy the festive holiday atmosphere.

"I finished finals two days ago. So, this is just me going out and spending time with my friends and having fun," said Shirley, of San Jose.

"I actually moved out of the Bay Area, and I came back to visit these two. I love the lights and everything at Santana Row. It makes me feel like I’m back at home," said Tay, of Walnut Creek.

According to the Federation, 69.5 million people say they plan to shop in-store and online. But no matter where or how people shop, they’re hoping to find a good deal.

"I haven’t really seen too many deals. I feel like most of the deals were on Black Friday or Cyber Monday," said Nick Bui, of San Jose.

A recent federation survey also showed that clothing or accessories and toys were the most purchased items so far this holiday shopping season.
