Los Altos has new chief who created progressive policing bureau

LOS ALTOS, Calif. - The city of Los Altos is hiring a new police chief.

Angela Averiett will take over Aug. 1. 

She's served more than 25 years in law enforcement, beginning with the Hayward Police Department and has been deputy chief at BART police.

She created and ran a progressive policing and community engagement bureau at BART. 

She is replacing longtime Los Altos Police Chief Andy Galea, who retired last week.
