Man killed outside SF homeless shelter while smoking cigarette, another injured: witness
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - One man was killed late Tuesday night outside a homeless shelter as he was outside smoking a cigarette and another man was injured, rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, according to San Francisco police and a witness.
Video at the scene shows the moments after police were first called to the 2100 block of Jennings Street in the Bayview about 11:30 p.m. Officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds -- one of them had died of his injuries, according to Capt. Dominic Yin.
Yin said homicide teams went out to collect the various rounds and any video surveillance in the area and take witness statements to "try to put it in the right sequence."
One of the employees at the United Council of Homeless Services at 211 Jennings Street said the shooting appeared to have started off as a robbery. Police said they are looking at several possibilities.
"There are varying hypotheses as to what's going on and we're looking into every avenue of what actually occurred," yin said.
This fatal shooting follows another deadly event on Monday, when a 15-year-old boy was killed in the Mission District.
