Man's clothes catch on fire at Vallejo sideshow

Police in Vallejo are investigating multiple sideshows over the weekend.

Video shows the driver of a yellow Mustang spinning in circles before crashing into a group of people at Sonoma Boulevard and Lemon Street.

Police said they received a report of a female injured at this location, but when they arrived to break up the sideshow, she was nowhere to be found.

There was another sideshow at BW Williams and Lewis Brown Drives, where a man was seen running away with his clothes on fire after he was hit by one of the cars.

Video shows him screaming in pain on the ground.

One hospital reported that a man showed up for treatment after being injured during a sideshow, but police said he was uncooperative so it cannot be confirmed whether he was the same person from the video.

Police confirmed another sideshow at the corner of Columbus Pkwy and Springs Rd.

Teri Carlyle, who lives in Vallejo near one of the recent sideshows, said, "It's out of control. I grew up in Vallejo and this is not the Vallejo that I’m used to, so I’m thinking maybe these people come from out of town."

"I’m afraid for the kids cause they’re hanging outside the windows, they’re doing the videos," said Carlyle.

Another Vallejo resident, Georgia Turkruss, said, "When I hear gunshots, I automatically drop to the floor. We're scared to open your door, scared to come outside."

Police said they received reports of sideshows on Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night.

"It can be as many as 200 kids just lined up the streets on both sides of the streets," said Carlyle. "It’s all hours of the night. It could be midnight, it could be 1 o'clock in the morning, it could be 2 o'clock in the morning."

Vallejo PD's spokesperson told KTVU officers suspect the crowds of about 400 people were part of a widespread organized event.

Police said they are understaffed, but had support from law enforcement from Napa County, Solano County, American Canyon and the CHP.

Vallejo police have not made any arrests.
