Medical emergency causes crash in Antioch
ANTIOCH, Calif. (BCN) - Police are investigating a vehicle collision that seriously injured the occupants of a vehicle Saturday afternoon in Antioch. At 12:32 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision in the area of Contra Loma Boulevard and the eastbound state Highway 4 off-ramp.
According to police, a small sedan drove down the off-ramp, crossed the Contra Loma Boulevard intersection and drove over the sidewalk without stopping.
The vehicle then went through a chain link fence and struck a utility box before coming to a rest in a vacant lot adjacent to the Kelly Moore Paints store at 1014 Fitzuren Road.
The occupants of the vehicle were treated at the scene.
They were all taken to hospitals with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Police did not say how many people were in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
An investigation revealed that the driver likely had a medical emergency before colliding with another vehicle on Highway 4 just west of the eastbound off-ramp for Contra Loma Boulevard, police said.
Police said the driver was unable to control or stop the vehicle as a result of the medical emergency. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be the cause of the accident, police said.
