Mega Millions over $1 billion on Christmas Eve

No ticket was sold with all six numbers. The next drawing is on Friday.

No one claimed the Mega Millions jackpot, but a lucky winner in California nabbed a $1.7 million ticket in the Christmas Eve drawing.

According to the California Lottery's website, a ticket worth $1,774,447 was sold at a Save Mart in Lemoore, located in Central California.

The Mega Millions jackpot reached $1.15 billion after no one claimed the top prize. The winning numbers for the Dec. 24 drawing were 11, 14, 38, 45, and 46, with a multiplier of 3.

The next Mega Millions drawing is on Friday.

HOW MUCH DO YOU WIN AFTER TAXES?

There are 1.15 billion reasons to dream, especially what you would do with the jackpot money. However, one thing all lottery winners have to take into account is the fact that their prizes will be taxed.

So how much do you really get after taxes?

It depends on a couple of factors: do you have to pay state taxes where you live? Will you take the lump sum payment or the annuity payout?

According to Mega Millions' website, those electing to take the annuity option get one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments, a process that is identical to Powerball with their payouts.
