MONTEREY BAY, Calif. (KTVU) – The Monterey Bay has taken on a turquoise blue hue over the past week.
According to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Caribbean-like tint is caused by plankton called coccolithophores.
Although plankton is a normal part of the Bay’s ecosystem, the aquarium says the current bloom is uncommon. They add that the current conditions are harmless.
