Day 2: Hundreds of passengers disembark coronavirus-infected ship

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (KTVU) - The second round of passengers from the coronavirus-stricken Grand Princess cruise will begin their 14-day quarantine at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield on Tuesday.
Charted buses carrying the first group of passengers arrived at the base Monday night around 8:15 p.m., officials said.
Passengers who tested positive for the coronavirus won't be brought to the base, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reassured.
During the first phase of the disembarkation process on Monday, 407 people were offloaded from the ship, 173 of them U.S residents and the other 234 were Canadians.
Travis Air Force Base is housing 149 of those passengers for the duration of their 14-day quarantine.
Officials said 232 Canadians were transported for repatriation back to their home country, two others were transported via ambulance.

1,500 passengers get to disembark
In all, about 1,500 passengers will be allowed to get off the boat, where they have been for 17 days. Allie Rasmus reports
Any passengers who display or develop symptoms after their arrival to Travis will be transferred to a medical facility off of the base.
The Center for Disease Control is handling quarantine operations and base personnel won't have any contact with the quarantined passengers, authorities said.
On Tuesday, disembarking resumed and an additional 269 passengers were removed from the Grand Princess cruise ship.
Of those passengers, 171 were taken to Travis and 98 guests from outside of California will be flown to military bases in Texas and Georgia.
Passengers who required acute medical treatment or hospitalization were offloaded from the ship on Monday.

150 Grand Princess passengers arrive by bus to be quarantined at Travis Air Force Base
Two buses and a van with about 150 people total arrived at Travis Air Force Base Monday night. The vehicles were full of passengers, who will be quarantined from the docked cruise ship that held off shore for days due to coronavirus concerns.
