SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - FireFox Send, Mozilla’s encrypted file-sharing service has graduated out of its experimental status, and is now available to everyone.
The free service allows users to share files from any web browser, through a link that automatically expires after a user-specified number of downloads or days. Users can share files of up to 2.5 GB by signing up for a free account, while unregistered users are restricted to a file size of 1 GB. However, recipients do not need to sign up with Firefox.
Compared to other file-sharing services such as Dropbox or WeTransfer, Send is oriented towards users concerned about the privacy and security of their data – other than the self-destruct feature, users can also choose to add a password as an added security measure.
“As with all Firefox apps and services, Send is Private By Design, meaning all of your files are protected and we stand by our mission to handle your data privately and securely,” says Nick Nguyen - Vice President, Product Strategy at Mozilla in a blog post announcing the launch.
Send will also be available via an Android app in beta later this week.
