Nepotism Night with Dawn Oberg
Celebrated San Francisco songwriter Dawn Oberg will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies for Nepotism Night, a variety show being held at the Second Act in SF's Upper Haight Sunday night.
A literate and gifted tunesmith whose songs are populated with vivid, hard-luck characters, Oberg has earned high praise for her three solo albums including her latest, 2015's acclaimed effort Bring. Echoing '70s icons like Tom Waits and Randy Newman as well as more modern alternative songwriters (Aimee Mann and Ben Folds come to mind), Oberg's music displays a sharp wit and nuanced pop sensibility.
Having recently released the holiday hit "Salvation Army Santa" as a digital single, Oberg will host an array of intriguing and varied guests for this semi yuletide-themed event. In addition to authors Alex Dolan, Maw Shein Win and writer/musicologist Daniel C. Cooper attendees will be treated to live musical performances by Oberg, songwriters Karlyn DeSteno and Roger Rocha (of 4 Non Blondes fame) and comedy by stand-up talent Zahra Noorbakhsh and sketch duo Pitta of the Mind (Shein Win with partner Amanda Chaudhary) and a conversation with "Straight Outta Hunter's Point" documentary filmmaker Kevin Epps.
