A Marin County school district is paying $17.5 million to settle sex-abuse lawsuits filed by four former students.

The former students accused Tamalpais High School of failing to protect them from their tennis coach, Normandie Burgos, despite evidence of predatory behavior.

Burgos was eventually convicted of molestation, and sentenced to 255 years behind bars. The New York Times reported that Tamalpais Union High School District mailed out the financial settlements last week.

A fifth case, filed by an anonymous plaintiff, goes to trial in February.

KTVU reached out to the plaintiffs' attorneys and has yet to hear back.
