A man has been arrested after he allegedly fired a shot at an Oakland police officer during a foot pursuit early Friday morning.
OAKLAND, Calif. (BCN) - A man has been arrested after he allegedly fired a shot at an Oakland police officer during a foot pursuit early Friday morning, according to police.
The suspect was taken into custody Friday evening after an hours long search after the incident started around 3 a.m. Police didn't identify him.
According to Oakland police, a uniformed officer in a marked patrol car in the 2300 block of East 17th Street early Friday morning "attempted to detain a suspicious person" when the suspect fled.
During the foot pursuit, the man turned in the direction of the officer and allegedly discharged a firearm, police said. The officer was not hit by the gunfire and did not discharge his own firearm.
More officers searched the initial area for the suspect, police said. They recovered a firearm but the suspect remained at large until he was arrested later in the day.
