Oakland man faces murder in killing of wife on I-580
ELK GROVE, Calif. - An Oakland man was charged Monday in the 2023 killing of his wife on Interstate 580 after he was arrested nearly two years later at a casino last week.
Nathaniel McCowan, 49, was charged in the Feb. 26, 2023, shooting death of his wife, Laketha McCowan, on the eastbound shoulder of I-580 near the Edwards Avenue off-ramp.
Authorities identified McCowan as the shooter, and after nearly two years of investigation, a judge issued a warrant for his arrest on Jan. 2.
That same day, officers arrested McCowan at the Sky River Casino in Elk Grove.
What's next:
McCowan was charged with three felonies: murder, corporal injury to a partner, and possession of a firearm by a felon with priors.
If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 56 years to life.
