Oakland police arrest boyfriend in teen's slaying

OAKLAND -- Police have arrested the boyfriend of a 17-year-old girl found shot and killed last week behind an East Oakland recreation center.

Darion Brown, 21, of Pittsburg has been charged with murder by Alameda County prosecutors in the June 8 shooting death of Alexis Ervin.

The body of the Oakland teen was found about 7 a.m. behind the Rainbow Recreation Center, located at 5800 International Blvd.

Several hours later, Brown showed up at the Chevron gas station at 1201 The Alameda in North Berkeley and began "acting aggressive towards customers," Berkeley police wrote in court records.

Officers arrived and, after getting permission from Brown to search his backpack, found an unloaded stolen pistol, which was the same gun used to kill Ervin, police said.

Prosecutors have also charged Brown with unlawful firearm activity and a weapons enhancement. Court records show he has a juvenile conviction in Contra Costa County for assault with a firearm.
