Mass shooting overnight at Oakland sideshow

A sideshow erupted in chaos after five people were injured in a mass shooting in Oakland overnight, police said. The shootings occurred around 3:45 a.m. Sunday near Fruitvale Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. Police said all of the victims were attending the sideshow.

Oakland police are investigating a shooting that happened in West Oakland on Monday morning, and sent three people to the hospital. The victims, who were only listed by police as in stable condition, were identified as two juveniles and an adult.

Investigators said the shootings, which police were alerted to by a shotspotter activation, happened at 8th and Center streets, one block from the West Oakland BART station, at around 11 a.m.

"When officers arrived on scene they found multiple casings and evidence of a shooting," said Oakland police captain, Robert Muniz. "Around the same time, they got a call from a local hospital that three shooting victims had arrived."

Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the shooting.

"This area is known to us as a gang or group area where we've had incidents in the past, however it’s unknown if this particular shooting is related to that," said Cpt. Muniz.
