CROCKETT, Calif. (KTVU) - A section of Interstate 80 in Crockett was closed for hours early Thursday morning, after there were a couple of crashes in the same general area of the freeway.
One of the crashes turned deadly.
One incident was reported just after 1:30 a.m., near the Cummings Exit.
An ambulance slammed into the back of a cement truck.
The UCSF ambulance did not have any patients inside.
However, the crash still reportedly injured three people, including ambulance paramedics.
They suffered major injuries, and were rushed to the hospital.
At one point, all lanes of eastbound 80 were closed.
But as the CHP was reopening the lanes at 3:30 a.m., another crash occurred.
A CHP bulletin says a big rig crashed into another vehicle, killing that car's driver, near the Cummings Skyway on-ramp.
A Sig-alert was issued.
Authorities had shut down all eastbound lanes, but the lanes later reopened.
