Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving two vehicles early Sunday morning in San Francisco that occurred a mile away from a shooting reported minutes before, according to San Francisco police.

The crash involving two vehicles happened at 3:06 a.m. in the area of Cesar Chavez and Vermont streets. Minutes before, police received report of gun shots in the area of Toland Street and McKinnon Avenue, police said.

Both incidents are being investigated but police said they could not confirm the two are related.

The vehicles appear to have either been racing or traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.

One person died at the scene of the crash. The other person involved was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have identified anyone involved.

The investigation is ongoing and police were still at the scene as of 10 a.m. Some eastbound lanes were closed on Cesar Chavez from Hampshire and Vermont streets.
