EARLIER:

A large group of law enforcement officers from multiple agencies and first responders converged at a Costco in Corona Friday night after reports of a shooting.

Officers responded to a shots fired call at the store, located at 480 N. McKinley St., at 7:45 p.m. Friday and anticipated an active shooter situation, according to Lt. Jeff Edwards of the Corona Police Department.

"They went inside and encountered four subjects down," Edwards said.

One man was shot and killed inside the store, according to Corona police. He has not yet been identified. Two others, including an off-duty police officer, were taken to the hospital with various degrees of injury, and police took the gunman into custody inside the store before being taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The Corona Police Department tweeted soon after apprehending the gunman, "the shooting incident in Corona has been stabilized. There is no apparent threat to our community from any outstanding persons."

Witnesses say the Costco was packed with shoppers when the gunfire broke out and everyone began running for their lives. One witness said there was an argument between two men in the freezer section of the store when suddenly one of the men pulled out a gun and began firing.

Police have not yet identified the shooter. The investigation is ongoing.

Customers who left shopping bags or other items need to contact Costco at 951-279-1190 to retrieve their property.
