OPD arrest 15-year-old after man shot to death over stolen scooter: report
OAKLAND, Calif. - Oakland police on Monday announced they arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with a homicide the day after Christmas on Foothill Boulevard.
Police said the teen shot and killed Ponciano "Chano" Tule Bernal on the 1100 block of Foothill Boulevard a little before 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 26.
When police arrived, they saw Bernal had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police did not provide a motive and court documents will remain under seal as the teen is a minor.
But OPD did say that the Alameda County District Attorney filed charges against the teen.
The East Bay Times reported that a source said the teen was charged with murder and robbery.
A GoFundMe written by a 14-year-old boy said his father was killed because he was going to confront "three guys" who had robbed him of his scooter while he was out getting tacos.
The 14-year-old said his dad was shot in the heart and died in seconds.
KTVU reached out to the organizer of the fundraiser on Tuesday to learn more but did not hear back despite multiple attempts by several reporters.
