Officers at scene of Orinda crash
SkyFOX was above a crash in Orinda on Wednesday that appeared to involve several vehicles.
ORINDA, Calif. - A high-speed chase ended in a crash that involved a police vehicle in Contra Costa County on Wednesday. Officials say two suspects are in custody.
It began at around 2 p.m. when Lafayette police responded to a report of a robbery at a fast-food restaurant on Mt. Diablo Boulevard.
Not long after that, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said an officer spotted the suspect's vehicle on Highway 24. The suspect vehicle sped off on Camino Pablo, which turns into San Pablo Dam Road, toward El Sobrante.
The sheriff's office said the suspect vehicle lost traction and crashed into another car that was driving in the opposite direction. A police car was also involved in the crash.
A stretch of San Pablo Dam Road, between Bear Creek Road and Tri Lane, was closed for several hours between Orinda and El Sobrante as a result of the collision. The road re-opened by 6 p.m.
The vehicles involved in the crash had significant damage.
Two suspects were taken into custody, both of whom had warrants for their arrest. The seven-year-old child of the driver of the suspect vehicle was in the car at the time of the crash.
The suspects were identified as 24-year-old Jajuan Ojeda of Oakland and 39-year-old Aevra Traylor of Sacramento. They face charges including child endangerment and robbery.
It is not clear if the suspect or the child suffered injuries.
The driver of the other civilian car involved was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Earlier, Orinda police would only confirm to KTVU that the road was closed.
The sheriff's office said an investigation is ongoing.
