Person dies under train at 16th & Mission BART station
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - BART officials confirmed a person died after reporting a major medical emergency involving a man under a train in San Francisco.
After the 16th Street Station's closure and major system wide delays, the station reopened at 9:37 p.m., according to BART officials.
The incident was reported at 7:22 p.m. at the 16th Street BART station in the Mission District, according to BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.
It's too soon to know how or why the victim ended up on the train tracks, Trost said. At 8:15 p.m. a BART spokesperson confirmed the incident was fatal and the victim was pronounced deceased. San Francisco police and fire departments are on scene.
Police interviewed witnesses at the scene and there was no indication of foul play, according to Trost.
Trains had been passing through the station without stopping. Passengers are experiencing major delays system-wide, according to Trost.
