Person taken into custody on Antioch Bridge after standoff

ANTIOCH (BCN) - California Highway Patrol officers Tuesday morning have taken an individual into custody on the Antioch Bridge, also known as state Highway 160, after closing traffic in both directions for more than an hour and a half.

Officers were responding to reports that someone, possibly armed, had stopped their vehicle in the northbound lanes of the bridge and walked to the ledge.

The call came in at 7:37 a.m. and responding officers shut the bridge down at the toll plaza at 8:07 a.m., according to CHP Officer John Fransen.

Traffic is backed up in both directions and there is no estimate for when the roadway will reopen as of shortly before 10 a.m.

The CHP is advising commuters to take an alternate route if possible. Fransen advised using state Highway 12 to access Interstate Highway 5 to state Highway 4, or vice-versa.
