Photo shows clowns at Concord school amid hoaxes

Claycord.com obtained a photos of two separate clowns which appear to be on campus at Clayton Valley Charter High School.

One of the photos was posted to Snapchat with the phrase, (sic) “We’re are here.” Both photos had a geographic filter with a logo for the school.

The principal tells KTVU although the photo appears to be taken on campus, it's unclear when the photo was taken or even if it may have been Photoshopped. The school says the photos are circulating online through social media.

Clayton Valley Charter High School released the following statement, "This morning we were alerted of a 'picture of a clown' in front of our school. We have contacted Concord police department and they are responding immediately to come to the school to investigate. Please know all students are safe. Out of an abundance of caution, police are monitoring the situation and staff is on alert. Teaching and learning are continuing as usual.  We are taking every precaution possible to ensure safety. Please know we take this seriously as the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority."

The school contacted police who are investigating, but at this point there is no credible threat.

This comes amid a number of social media threats toward schools in the Bay Area - and across the country - by "creepy clowns.” At this point, none of the threats have been credible.

Antioch police were dispatched at 10:57 a.m. Tuesday to Dallas Ranch Middle School on a report of posts saying clowns were going to shoot at the school.

Burlingame police said they were made aware of posts claiming that people dressed as clowns were going to show up at Peninsula schools including some in Burlingame.

Similar threats have been made in other parts of the country, police said. The threats started on the East Coast and have recently made their way west.

There were also specific references to killing and kidnapping that might occur at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Lenke said.

Officials in the Oakland Unified School District told parents Tuesday afternoon that threats had been made toward schools in Oakland, district spokesman John Sasaki said.

Sasaki would not name the schools, but he would say most of the threats were being made on Instagram.

At this point, all of the threats against schools have been hoaxes.
