Police activity blocks southbound Highway 101 lanes in Gilroy

GILROY, Calif. - A severe traffic alert was issued due to police activity on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in Gilroy, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The alert was issued at 11:26 a.m. and officials said the right and center lanes were blocked south of Masten Ave. 

Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible, officials said. 

There's no estimation for when the lanes will reopen.
