Police: Man, 18, arrested in beating of 88-year-old woman in San Francisco

The man suspected of brutally beating an 88-year-old woman in San Francisco ealier this month has been arrested, San Francisco police announced Sunday.

Yik Oihuang, who is still being treated for life-threatening injuries, was beaten on the morning of Tuesday, January 8 outside of her home on Visitacion Avenue. A witness reported seeing an unknown male subject leave her residence around 6:45 a.m. and an investigation led police to a suspect.

Keonte Gathron, 18, was arrested Saturday evening in San Francisco in connection to the Visitacion Avenue assault after allegedly committing another robbery. 

When Oihuang was found on Raymond Avenue a few blocks from her home, she was bloodied, disoriented and suffering from severe head injuries. Her granddaughter, Sassana Yee, published an emotional Facebook post where she said burglars “beat [Oihuang] up to a bloody pulp in the park.” 

“San Francisco Police Department investigators worked tirelessly to identify a suspect in this case,” said San Francisco Police Chief William Scott. “This is an ongoing investigation and we will have further details to follow later in the week. But we want to express our gratitude to neighbors and leaders in the Visitacion Valley community who worked closely with out investigators to address this act of senseless violence.”
