Operation Doggy Dropping
SAN FRANCISCO - Tuffy Tuffington is the mastermind behind this weekend’s “poop protest” at Crissy Field.
And his idea – calling on all dog owners to leave their droppings on the grass ahead of the alt-right Patriot Prayer rally on Saturday – is causing quite a stink. He told the Los Angeles Times that he got the idea a little while ago when he watched his dog going to the bathroom in Golden Gate Park and he “suddenly had this image …of a bunch of alt-right protesters marching through a field of poop.”
The rally, which San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and others feared would bring out the “alt right” and “people full of hate,” similar to the violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month, has set off a firestorm of controversy and several counter protests throughout the Bay Area.
“Love it,” Jen Dheedene, wrote on his event page, asking people to start leaving the poop on the field at Old Mason Street beginning on Friday at noon.
But the idea was getting a lot of flack, too.
Nancy Heeman wrote: “So abjectly juvenile. Guess whose tax dollars will be paying for the cleanup ? As a dog lover, I object to using their innocent bodily functions in this way !”
And Gary Uhouse didn’t like the thought of this poop protest either, and his criticism didn’t appear to take political sides.
“As a bay swimmer with my dog at Crissy Fields, I am disgusted by this. Do you think people will show up on Sunday and clean up mashed poop? I doubt it. This reactionary approach to an undesired assembly is what is part of why the country is so divided.”
