Pothole on I-880 near Oakland's Jack London Square damages at least 10 cars: CHP
OAKLAND, Calif. - A pothole along Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland near Jack London Square damaged at least 10 cars, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pothole was reported just after 4 a.m. on Friday in the southbound lanes near Oak Street, which the CHP described as "huge."
The CHP report shows that people reported getting flat tires and many had to be towed away.
Traffic was diverted to 16th Avenue at Embarcadero until about 8:35 a.m., when Caltrans was able to fill the pothole.
Potholes often appear in wet weather, when the rain eats away at the pavement.
Last week, a pothole closed lanes on I-680 in Fremont for many hours during the evening commute.
