Power is out for more than 6,000 residents in Redwood City, Woodside and Portola Valley, and Pacific Gas and Electric crews are working to fix the problem, officials said Saturday.

A tree fell on some overhead power lines in Redwood City around 11 a.m., causing the outage, according to PG&E spokeswoman Karly Hernandez. The spokeswoman couldn't say when power would be restored.

About 6,500 people are affected in San Mateo County, with the largest concentration of affected customers in Redwood City, Hernandez said.

The Redwood City outage is in the area of Farm Hill Boulevard and Silver Hill Road, according to police.

A traffic light at Mcgarvey Avenue and Farm Hill Boulevard in Redwood City is out, and motorists should treat the intersection as a four-way stop, according to police.
